Accessibility statement for NHS My Planned Care

This accessibility statement applies to www.myplannedcare.nhs.uk.

This website is run by NHS England. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
  • We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • The Care Quality Commission (CQC) ratings widget may, in some cases, contain text with insufficient colour contrast between the text and background. Additionally, the link to the Provider report does not visibly indicate keyboard focus
  • The speciality guidance documents are displayed via an iframe, which does not have any alternative text
  • Some PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software with missing titles, and image alternative text.

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

NHS England is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

The guidance preview pages, which display the speciality guidance, use an IFRAME to display the PDF documents. The IFRAME does not contain alternative text. But this is the only element in the page, and the page title is the same as the document title.

This fails WCAG 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value.

This function is part of a third-party component, which we do not have control over. We have been in contact with the supplier to raise this issue. They have said they will plan to resolve the problem in a future release.

Some PDF documents are not fully accessible with missing titles or image alternative texts.

This fails WCAG 1.1.1 Text Alternatives, WCAG 2.4.2 Page Titled.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

Third Party

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) ratings widget may, in some cases, contain text with insufficient colour contrast between the text and background. Additionally, the link to the Provider report does not visibly indicate keyboard focus.

This fails WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard and WCAG 1.4.3 Contrast (minimum).

The CQC widget is a third party embedded element and is directly designed and maintained by the CQC. We do not have control over how these functions. At any such time that the CQC update their widget to improve these elements, we will incorporate this within the website.
